The Craft Behind the Music

In memoriam

Suga & van Kollenburg are pleased to support the Orbis Musicus String Academy 2026 and contribute to a course environment centred around artistic dedication, musical exchange, and the continued passing on of musical tradition.

As violin makers and restorers, we work closely with musicians and their instruments every day and understand the deep connection between craftsmanship, artistry, and musical expression. Supporting young musicians as they continue to refine and develop their own craft is something especially meaningful to us.

We wish all participants an inspiring and enriching week filled with music, discovery, and new artistic connections.

Suga & van Kollenburg

Suga & van Kollenburg is a violin-making and restoration atelier based in Bremen, Germany, founded in 2011 by Osamu Suga and Adrianus van Kollenburg. Located near Bremen’s Theater am Goetheplatz, the atelier works closely with professional musicians, students, and collectors from across Germany and beyond.

Specialising in the restoration, maintenance, valuation, and sale of fine string instruments and bows, Suga & van Kollenburg combines traditional craftsmanship with a highly individual and personal approach. Alongside their restoration work, the atelier supports musicians in finding instruments and bows suited to their artistic and technical needs, often building long-standing relationships with players throughout different stages of their musical development.

With a deep respect for craftsmanship, sound, and musical tradition, Suga & van Kollenburg has established a reputation for careful, thoughtful work rooted in both artistry and precision.
